Reuben Cotter Wrangles the 2024 Sports Dad of the Year Title

Known for his toughness on the field and kindness off it, our very own Reuben Cotter has been crowned this year’s Philips Sports Dad of the Year.

The recent father of two, who welcomed his son Banks in June and has a daughter named Sunny, was thrilled with his win.

“I’m very humbled to win the award. It’s definitely something that I’m proud to be recognised for.

“My family is everything to me, and being recognised for something I love to do is just a bonus.”

True to his champion spirit, Reuben has generously matched the $5,000 prize, which will be donated to his nominated charity, the Brighter Lives Foundation in Townsville. The foundation will now receive a total of $10,000 thanks to his win.

“I’m very proud to be an ambassador for the Brighter Lives Foundation. Every time I visit, I leave feeling very grateful. Putting a smile on those children’s faces means a lot to me, and I know this money will help support the children and their families through tough times.”

As for Father’s Day, Reuben plans to make it all about family.

“Because we had a game on Thursday night, it’s nice to have a weekend off with the family. This weekend, we’re going to stay at our local hotel, relax by the pool, enjoy some good food, and just switch off with Kenz and the kids. Can’t beat that!”

Aside from spending quality time with Sunny and Banks, Reuben will now turn his focus to the finals campaign with the Cowboys, where he serves as co-captain alongside Tom Dearden.

“Both Tommy and I are really excited about the finals. They’ve crept up quite quickly. It’s our first time as co-captains, so we’re pumped. It’s anyone’s game this year, and we can’t wait to get out there and give it our all with the boys. We’re excited for the challenge ahead.”
